Time Flies Like...

  Fall
I have to say that Fall is most definitely my very favorite time of year. Second to Fall, I love Winter, then Spring and finally Summer. I just can't get excited about all the heat and humidity around here. I am sure that if I lived somewhere else, that I might actually like summer, but since I don't, I live in Iowa, I must take what nature gives me and so, I love Fall.

The dry crispy air with the sound of dry leaves rustling along the ground. The cool evenings where you need a coat and the best thing is to hang out in front of a bonfire and roast your dinner on a stick. Two of the best holidays all year are in the Fall, Thanksgiving and Halloween. You get to eat a lot with friends and family and you don't have to feel bad about it later, and you get to dress like someone you aren't in real life and also get to eat a lot of candy. Yummy!

I wish that Fall would last more than a month and a half before it gets to be Winter, and it would be great if Summer would not last quite as long. That is just my opinion.

Comments:
I completely agree. I have a ton of pleasant memories associated with summer, but they're all in spite of the season, not because of it. There's nothing like those days where the only logical outdoor garb is blue jeans and a flannel shirt and the air has just that first tinge of winter bite to it and there's a football game on TV and it's almost my birthday.

Blazing cold winter is nice, too, but I'm with you - Fall all the way.

I am a huge fan of summer, mostly because you can get away with wearing very little for long periods of time, and I am a big fan of partial nudity. However, the way the two of you make a case for it, I'd just as soon move to Autumn-Land and stay there. :-)

Carrie, glad to see you back on the blog circuit. :-)

I must say that I have much, much undue bias for summer. I believe it is due in large part to the fact that there was no school in summer. It was three months off from hearing, "Mark, you are such a bright kid if you would just apply yourself I think you would do really well." After hearing that for five years I put a little effort into things and realized that I kind of missed the extra attention that came with screwing up my future.

Now that I am an adult my old biases are slowly dieing and I find that I like the spring and fall because I do not have to run the heater or the air conditioner, two things which cost money. Also since I got married the thermostat has no longer been part of my ever shrinking domain. So I find myself wishing and hoping that my lovely wife finds the outdoor temperature acceptable for indoor use. If it takes autumn to do that, then I say lets have autumn year round!

Hey now! Settle down.

I also like autumn best, though I struggle to rank the remaining seasons... And where does Cedar Rapids' fifth season--"enjoying the other four seasons"--fall? Gosh, it's tough to say.

I like autumn for the cool temperatures, crisp, fresh air, countless good smells, and pretty colors. I like spring for the freshness, the rebirth, the new life, and for the end of a long winter. I like summer for the lazy, sunny days, playing in the water (pool or lake), grilling on the deck (and looking forward to enjoying the SUPERDECK!), and days of few cares (though those are now mostly just a memory). I like winter for its calm, for its quiet beauty, for the sense of peace and solitude you can only find in the middle of a snow-shrouded forest, and for the warmth of home, with a crackling fire in the fireplace...

Each season has so much to offer! I'm just glad that I live in a place where I get to enjoy all four of the seasons (and I don't mean Cedar Rapids, which is not where I live anyway). I think I would really miss any one of the four.

Wow, Hibs... you're not trying to actually go out on a date with any of these seasons, you know...

Aren't I?
